starbucks and bagels every morning. walking from one end of manhattan to the other. subways at midnight. opening ceremony, blue & cream, h&m, topshop, barney's coop. underground bars lit by candlelight. clubs filled with beautiful people. burritos from street vendors at 2am. bleeker street. harlem late at night. russian food at brighton beach. invite to nyc shrek premier. 24 hour diners. pinkberry. 5th avenue shopping. comedy clubs and pina coladas.

1 & 2: central park. 3: chelsea. 4: brooklyn guy i met who showed me around for a day. 5: near times square. 6: made friends with a couple of awesome german guys. 7: brooklyn beach. 8: times square. 9: subway at night. 10: speaks for itself..

Despite being there for three weeks, I didn't take many photos. I instead focussed on immersing myself in the culture, rather than taking pictures of it.
I didn't do any of the tourist things..i didn't even see the statue of liberty!

New york was as amazing as i always imagined it to be. I have already decided to go for a three month working holiday at the beginning of next year..its the closest i can come to actually moving there.

My only regret? Being asked to be in a music video for a well known r&b artist and having to decline as i was leaving that day..that would have been amazing.

I had promised myself only to buy a few good things while there..it was hard but i came home with something i've wanted for a long time.

i'm currently in melbourne airport, drinking coffee and sitting in a sun dappled windowsill. in a few hours i will be boarding my flight to los angeles, then onto new york. i have to admit, i'm scared. being alone in such a place, so different to my small hometown, is very daunting. but this is what i've been dreaming of since i was 16.

hopefully with the abundance of free wifi around the city i will be able to post whilst away...

there is a boutique here in perth by the name of subway dc. i used to have the wrong idea about this store; would never set foot in there. one day i decided to see what all the fuss was about and was instantly hooked. i never realised within its walls were most of my favourite labels.
like lover.

there was a massive sale there the other day, which was housed in an empty store in the city. had i not passed by on one of my random walks i would never have known about it.

i walked out with a blouse from lover's 2008 collection, electric ladyland. Originally priced at $400, i got this baby for around 70% off.

It is two sizes too big for me, but i couldn't say no! i'm quite fond of the oversized feel, anyhow..

and a little something i also picked up on sale...

....is this shift dress from forever new. I cannot tell you how long i've been searching for the perfect little tunic dress, with loose sleeves, isn't tight down the bottom and is not too long (or too short)!
I went in with the intention of looking for a grey skirt, and wanting to make the experience as painless as possible. On my way out, next to the door, there it was. I literally gasped out loud. I knew straight away it was the one.

today is the first day this year (minus the massive storm a few weeks ago of course) that it has been truly cold and rainy. Usually this would sadden me but this time i leapt out of bed with the sound of raindrops and my first thoughts were:
'ooo what coat should i wear today? tights maybe? boots, hurrah!'

after a few outfit changes i settled on something simple. i'll save the heavy layering, combat boots and scarf goodness for when it starts getting really cold.

i've been thinking about colouring my hair, but i have no idea what to do...i guess this mop will have to stay until i decide.

been quite busy with work, uni, and organising my trip to new york, which is less than a month away. i've actually found it very hard to save all my money. it made me realise just how much i spend on clothes and accessories, something a struggling student should not do!

if you haven't guessed already, one of my favourite designers is sass & bide. girly but edgy, it is one label where almost every piece i own, want or must have.

The dress i got on sale. The vest...well, i tell myself it is an investment piece. $490 for a vest?? insane...yet i swear it was calling me from it's place proudly displayed on a wall. 'come on...you know you wanna take me home.'
i have to admit, the thing is pretty crazy, what with it's ruffles and studs. but i love it.

another thing i've been rocking lately is pink PINK lips. a little pretty, a little whorish, digging it.

I woke up as soon as i heard the courier pull up at my front door, hurriedly got dressed and paraded around admiring my feet.
This explains why i look half asleep in these pictures, and also why they are a little blurry (hehe!)

I really need to make the effort to post more often. I've been meaning to do a few posts on a few special things i've recieved over the past few weeks...including the new love of my life (hint: she's pink buttery leather goodness) and a ring i have been coveting for quite a while. I'm in the process of purchasing a cheaper dslr (i used to have a 450d but had to sell to buy my macbook air; well worth it), which means outfit posts will be more frequent.

I haven't updated for more than two weeks; life had gotten in the way i suppose. My christmas was, to say the least, quite lonely. I spent the day on my own watching episodes of my favourite show, and unwrapping the presents I had bought for my cat. New years was better, a random party where i met loads of new people.

The best thing about this part of the year though, is undoubtably the boxing day sales. Although totally broke, I managed to buy a few sass & bide pieces along with a few staples from forever new. Can't wait to head over to Melbourne later this year and be able to step into an actual s&b boutique..

The weather has been constantly nearing forty degrees and this has made it impossible to live in anything but loose, floaty tops and skirts. I try to avoid the uniform of tee and shorts that most girls seem to permanently live in and try to put my own twist into my outfits.

Chanel Orange Fizz <3

I have been lusting over the Orange Fizz nail polish by Chanel for a few weeks, and came close to paying the $50 the department stores were asking for it. But in the end, I couldn't justify such a purchase...not for a cosmetic anyway..

Yesterday I got home and found a small box with the familiar logo on it, on top of a piece of paper that simply read 'I love you'. The boy, returning from his offshore stint in vietnam, had remembered me pining over it and, faced with a Chanel assistant at the airport who did not speak english, pawed through drawers of nail polish until he found it. It was such a lovely surprise! And at $20 USD from duty free, a bargain.

Apologies for the chips and shoddy application; that's what you get for being so excited that you forget to turn on a light while applying, and a job that means you can't have perfect polish for even one day.

six things to obsess over (more so)

I am an obsessive person. When I like or want something I incessantly think about it until I have reached a conclusion; whatever that may be. These are the six things I'm currently having a love affair with...

1. Dawson's Creek

Other than a select few other television series (The L Word, Queer as Folk) Dawson's Creek has always been my favourite. While some may put it down to teenage angsty fluff, I am more in love with it at 23 than I was while first watching it at 13. Why do I love it so much? Even in my darkest moods, it has never failed to give me hope about life and love. And as for the overachieving use of dialect so often ridiculed? Well, could you honestly say you'd rather the characters talk like the real kids of today?

2. YSL Arty Oval Ring

Jumping on the bandwagon late (as always, and i like it that way!), I have fallen in mad, deep, passionate love with this gold, turquoise-y chunky piece of goodness. Now it must be said that I am not a jewellery person, but as of late I seem to be changing my tune. If anything, the YSL ring has not only pushed me over the edge, it has me falling headfirst! Too bad the few on ebay are double the original cost, and the ones available for preorder at saks have a $60 shipping fee...

3. Miu miu bow satchel in mughetto

I have posted this bag before. Never in my life have i yearned for a material possession so much as the bow satchel, in this delicious, good enough to eat shade of blush pink. I am not kidding, i would sell all my clothes for this bag. I would rather walk the streets in old, torn moth-eaten garments if only i could sport this baby on my arm...ahh, the dream.

4. That one, special, amazing coat to take to New York

I am going to my dream city, New York, in February or March next year and I am aware that the level of cold at that time of year is beyond anything I've ever experienced. Coming from a place of mediterranean climate like Perth, I am mind-numblingly cold at 10 degrees. So to contemplate below zero temperatures I will need the perfect, neutral coloured, heavy coat.

A couple of months ago I found this boyfriend coat on the topshop website, and was instantly attracted, but let it go (at the time thinking i was never going to get to NY). Browsing on lookbook a few days ago, I stumbled across a picture that took my breath away. The girl in this photo is dressed exactly as I would be in the winter, her look is exactly mine, down to the spotted tights. It was then that I knew I needed this coat..but yet again, my lateness has meant that I have missed out.
I'm not going to give up, there must be someone out there wanted to sell this coat in a size 6!

Which leads me to my next obsession...

5. Winter (and winter fashion)

I have always been a summer person, simply because i can never handle any type of coldness. But lately, sitting in my hot house, in my hot town, 33 degrees is no longer as appealing as it once was. I miss being swamped in woollens, my hair acting as a scarf (not sticking damply to my neck), huddled against the wind and rain with a coffee clutched in one hand and the other stuffed deep in a coat pocket. Being wrapped in layer upon layer.

6. Alexa Chung

This girl is a goddess. She dresses in the way that I have always inspired to dress. She has a way of making feminine clothing more tomboy-esque, which i can totally identify with (i was a complete tomboy up until a few years ago, and still am a little).
Alexa has a charm and quirk that makes her stand out far beyond any other 'it girl' for me. If I could just borrow (ok, have) her wardrobe, i would be a very happy girl..!

university holidays. for me, they consist of working a dreary job at a newsagency, coffee at my numerous haunts and walking around the city for hours at a time. Most of all, it means stretching languidly out on the couch in my sun dappled house, watching season after season of dawson's creek with bottomless mugs of tea.

I'd almost forgotten about these snakeskin leggings until i found them nestled at the back of my wardrobe. Loving animal prints right now.

It's steadily getting hotter. 37, 38 degrees on the weekend. A 'mild' 27 today, makes it so hard to work with my essentially winteresque wardrobe.

Decided to introduce my playsuit to the world. One part of me feels too old to be wearing such an outfit; the other loves that it is a little bit quirky (for where I live, at least).

It never really occurred to me what colour clothing I purchase, until i took a long look at the rack and realised it was all neutral, pastel and muted tones.

Being asian, spanish and australian, my skin tone is probably considered 'enviable' to a lot of people; to me it just means an unwanted tan during summer. Even though I'm aware my slightly darker skin means I could probably pull off almost any colour, I have always leaned towards the less obtrusive options rather than bright, bold hues. However I'm starting to think that if I can't incorporate them into my wardrobe, I can at least use accessories to include them.

Repainted my nails in Kit's 'High Roller' and thought they deserved their own post. I was after a slightly softer, more pastel green but this colour is punchy and I like that.
I also like that they stand out from my blonde/brown mop of hair. Nothing like a little contrast.

I'm thinking OPI's 'Get In Lime' for the lighter green I was initially after. Then, maybe a lilac...

23 degrees today, but it felt a lot hotter than that. It's almost too late in spring to add a cardigan to the mix. It's too bad; I'm in love with layering a little too much I think.

My acne atacomas finally arrived in the mail. It was a close call, they almost didn't get delivered! I've been dreaming of these arriving on my doorstep day and night for a week.

I got size 38 but I am really a 39. I couldn't get the bigger size so I decided to take the chance. At first I couldn't even get them on...but with a little leather stretching spray, some patience and a whole lot of pain, they are starting to fit much better.

Who knew I could love a pair of inanimate objects to the point of happily bearing torture?

The number of stares and odd looks was, living in Perth, not surprising. How I long for the day to be somewhere where having a sense of fashion is accepted and celebrated, not ridiculed and out of place.

But with the Australian dollar doing so well against the US, my credit card is in for a hard time...

Even though I love how the Australian summer gets, most of my wardrobe is for winter. Leggings and layering tops (some of which are trans-seasonal) are plentiful; shorts and light, floaty skirts and dresses are not. I'm in need of some summer staples, and I have a long list.
