city that never sleeps

starbucks and bagels every morning. walking from one end of manhattan to the other. subways at midnight. opening ceremony, blue & cream, h&m, topshop, barney's coop. underground bars lit by candlelight. clubs filled with beautiful people. burritos from street vendors at 2am. bleeker street. harlem late at night. russian food at brighton beach. invite to nyc shrek premier. 24 hour diners. pinkberry. 5th avenue shopping. comedy clubs and pina coladas.

1 & 2: central park. 3: chelsea. 4: brooklyn guy i met who showed me around for a day. 5: near times square. 6: made friends with a couple of awesome german guys. 7: brooklyn beach. 8: times square. 9: subway at night. 10: speaks for itself..

Despite being there for three weeks, I didn't take many photos. I instead focussed on immersing myself in the culture, rather than taking pictures of it.
I didn't do any of the tourist things..i didn't even see the statue of liberty!

New york was as amazing as i always imagined it to be. I have already decided to go for a three month working holiday at the beginning of next year..its the closest i can come to actually moving there.

My only regret? Being asked to be in a music video for a well known r&b artist and having to decline as i was leaving that day..that would have been amazing.

I had promised myself only to buy a few good things while there..it was hard but i came home with something i've wanted for a long time.

Alexander wang rocco duffle. Vintage scarf from store in the east village. cuff i found hanging on a pole in chelsea. pink ray bans. leopard shirt dress from h&m. limited edition brooklyn absolut vodka. 'new york in a box' from MOMA.

All i can think about is ways to get back to new york city as soon as i can...i think i've fallen in love.

  8. What's your secret to meeting random people who will show you around the place? I'm going to NYC in January and in a couple of months' time I'll be seeing San Francisco, and I'd really like to just hang out with a local for a day.

  9. Awesome photos! Love what you bought too. And that NY in a box is so cute! Pity about the music video, that would have been way cool.

Loving your purchases too - the duffle of course, but also the New York wooden set, that's just too adorable. So happy to have you back even if you're not that thrilled to BE back haha. xo

  15. I was just wondering HOW you found all the cool little parts of New York - did you know people there? Did you go by yourself?! I'm going to New York in a couple of weeks and am not sure where to start.... :-) Glad you're back - love your blog xx

  16. anonymous: i didnt know anyone at all, and yes i went alone. I had no clue where to start either...my best advice to you is not to waste ALL your time doing the touristy stuff, just get out there and feel how it is to live there. It made the trip so much more amazing for me xx

  18. Yeah it's apparently a little hard, but I think it will be worth it, so I'm just going to do it. No citezenship just applying for a visa. E3 ones are apparently easier to get, but you can only get one after receiving a job offer, which then makes it harder again. I'm just going to see what happens over the next 6 1/2 months!

  22. This makes me so nostalgic for New York. It's one of the best cities in the world! I did the same as you - ignored the toursity stuff and just wandered the streets; tried to think like a local. And loved every minute of it.

  27. Welcome home!! The photos are amazing, I am so glad you had a wonderful time. Congratulations on rocco by the way, I am sure you two will be very happy together xxx

  28. you bought the rocco duffle! so jealous. and of course, of visiting new york. i think that's the only way to travel, just taking time to immerse yourself in the place, and soak up the culture. it sounds clichéd, but really, i hate it when people say things like "i've done paris" and they were only there for two days! i'm thinking of going to new york next year, just wondering if you have any favourite places or tips?
